| Cadbury to be Fairtrade Certified by Easter 2010 | |||
|
Arch Bevis, Federal Member for Brisbane, was pleased to hear that Cadbury Australia have announced their plans to achieve Fairtrade Certification for their Dairy Milk chocolate by Easter 2010. This decision will more than triple the amount of Fairtrade produce available to Australian consumers. Cadbury's leadership sets a positive example for other Australian businesses to consider the social and global impact of their practices. It will also help inform consumers about making socially responsible decisions while purchasing products. Fairtrade Labelling Australia and New Zealand (FLANZ) is an independent licensing and certification body. To achieve Fairtrade certification, products must comply with stringent criteria regarding labour conditions, environmental practices and the price paid for the produce. Mr Bevis is hopeful that companies and the wider community adopting more certified Fairtrade products will result in positive social and environmental outcomes worldwide.
