Ten Floors of New Research Facilities for Herston Centre
Federal Member for Brisbane Arch Bevis has welcomed the Budget announcement by the Rudd Government of $55 million in funding to expand the Queensland Institute of Medical Research at Herston.
It involves the construction of a new thirteen storey building with ten floors dedicated to laboratory and research facilities and one for education, teaching and skills programmes.
“QIMR is an ideal place for this type of cutting-edge research infrastructure and I strongly congratulate them on their success,” Mr Bevis said.
“As well as playing a vital role in Australian research and innovation, the facility will provide a significant boost to the local economy.
“And that means jobs for Brisbane in the midst of the global recession.”
One of eight such projects around Australia in the Budget, the facility will enhance recruitment of Australia’s next generation of researchers and technicians and provide additional capacity for collaborative research.
Mr Bevis added: “This project boosts both jobs and productivity - the ideal combination.”
