Arch Bevis - Federal Labor Member for Brisbane

Arch Bevis Launches Woolworths Fresh Food Rescue Campaign 2 March 2010

Federal Member for Brisbane Arch Bevis today launched the Woolworths Fresh Food Rescue campaign at the Ashgrove and Spring Hill Woolworths supermarkets.
Mr Bevis said: “This is a very worthy initiative and I commend Woolworths Ashgrove and Spring Hill for being involved.”
The purpose of the campaign is to rescue surplus food from the stores and turn it into meals for those in need. Food no longer fit for sale is often still of good quality and can be turned into nutritious and healthy meals, rather than being sent to landfill.
A particular focus of the event is that Woolworths is looking for local Fresh Food Rescue partners.
While Woolworths Ashgrove and Spring Hill already send some surplus food to Foodbank and Meals on Wheels, the stores are seeking more local partners.

Mr Bevis added: “I would encourage local charities to contact Ashgrove Manager Jo McMurtrie and Spring Hill Manager Daniel Bolton to discuss how this programme could be of assistance.”
