18 May 2009
The Federal Budget provided $20 million for a detailed feasibility and planning study for an inner city rail network for Brisbane.
Federal Member for Brisbane said: “The study will look at possible routes for two new rail tunnel corridors in the inner city.
“As Brisbane continues to grow and with it traffic congestion, the need for inner city rail will increase.
“The $20 million study is an important first step towards meeting that future demand.”
The Budget put considerable emphasis on public transport, providing $4.6 billion for metropolitan rail networks throughout Australia.
