$4m Trades Training Centre for North-West Brisbane Schools 31 March 2009

Federal Member for Brisbane Arch Bevis and Federal Member for Petrie Yvette D’Ath have enthusiastically welcomed the announcement that students from five schools will benefit from a $4.1 million Trades Training Centre to be built in the north-west suburbs.
Students at Mitchelton State High School, Everton Park State High School, The Gap State High School, Mount Maria Senior College and Northside Christian College will have use of state-of-the-art training facilities at the new centre to be located at Mitchelton State High School.
“The centre will provide students with skills in Electrotechnology and Engineering,” Mr Bevis said.
“It will be of enormous value to students in the area. It will help young people to become equipped with the skills they need to participate effectively and competitively in the workforce of tomorrow.”
Mrs D’Ath said: “By providing students with high-quality relevant training opportunities, the centre will also encourage them to complete their studies and help them obtain modern trade qualifications.
“The schools are to be congratulated for working together to secure this first-class facility.”
The Government’s investment in Trades Training Centres in Schools will help increase the proportion of students achieving Year 12 or an equivalent qualification to 85% by 2015 and 90% by 2020.
