Twenty one local schools will miss out on funding for Trades Training Centres if Tony Abbott is elected Prime Minister. This will mean about 23,000 local young people will miss out on the chance to start a trade at school.
Parliamentary Secretary for Employment, Jason Clare, Member for Brisbane, Arch Bevis, and Labor Candidate for Ryan, Steven Miles, today visited Mitchelton State High School where the Gillard Labor Government is building a Trades Training Centre.
“A Gillard Labor Government will build more of these Trades Training Centres across the country,” Jason Clare said.
“If Tony Abbott is elected other local schools will miss out.”
Arch Bevis said he was fighting to stop Tony Abbott’s plans to cut the Trades Training Centre program.
“The only way to stop Tony Abbott from cutting the Trades Training Centre program is to re-elect the Gillard Labor Government,” Arch Bevis said.
“I want to see local students get the chance to start learning a trade. But Tony Abbott will take that away.”
Steven Miles said that Tony Abbott’s promise to cut funding to Trades Training Centres would mean thousands of local young people would miss out on the opportunity to start learning a trade at school.
“If Tony Abbott becomes Prime Minister fewer young people will be able to start an apprenticeship at school," Steven Miles said.
“A highly skilled workforce is vital for the future of our economy. Cutting Trades Training is bad news for our community and bad news for the country.”
